Phillip Lopate

Phillip Lopate is the author of at least a dozen books-novels, poetry, and essay collections. He is primarily known for his nonfiction (the essay collections Bachelorhood, Against Joie De Vivre, Portrait of My Body, Portrait Inside My Head), several book-length essays (Notes on Sontag, Waterfront), and as the editor of Art of the Personal Essay. He has also written extensively on the movies (Totally Tenderly Tragically) and on education (Being with Children). He is currently a professor of writing and the director of the graduate MFA nonfiction program at Columbia University.
