Vijay Iyer

Vijay Iyer is a pianist, composer, bandleader, and electronic musician. He has released eighteen albums, most recently on ECM Records, and has collaborated with Amiri Baraka, Mike Ladd, Butch Morris, Steve Coleman, Wadada Leo Smith, George Lewis, Roscoe Mitchell, Oliver Lake, Reggie Workman, Amina Claudine Myers, Geri Allen, Dead Prez, Teju Cole, Haile Gerima, Greg Tate, and others. His doctoral research was on embodied music cognition in the music of the African diaspora. He was named the 2014 DownBeat Pianist of the Year, a 2013 MacArthur Fellow, a 2012 Doris Duke Performing Artist, and a 2010 Grammy nominee. He is the Franklin D. and Florence Rosenblatt Professor of the Arts in the Department of Music at Harvard.
